Deborah Voorhees has lived a colorful life—filmmaker, director, writer, journalist, editor, teacher, even a Hollywood B-scream starlet and a Playboy Bunny–which has given her much fodder for her filmmaking. In 2015, her screenplay Genevieve was an official selection of the Beverly Hills Film Festival. Also in 2015, her short film/music video Hip Hop Hamlet, with Brooklyn rapper Devon Glover, became one of only 12 films to become an official selection of the Shakespeare film festival in Stratford, England (Kenneth Branagh is the festival patron). In 2016, Hip Hop Hamlet and Othello: Good Night My Sweet were official selections of the Elsinore Shakespeare Conference in Denmark. In 2014, she released her first feature film, a quirky, indie film Billy Shakespeare, which she wrote, directed and co-produced. This campy romp asks, “What if William Shakespeare never existed… until now? Our Modern Bard is caught in a love triangle of confused sexuality, cross dressing, mistaken identity, and bedroom trysts.” Currently, she is in post production with the dark comedy, Catching Up, which she directed and edited, from New York playwright Tom Sime, who adapted it for the screen with Voorhees. Besides shooting live concerts and theatrical stage productions, she directs and edits music videos. My Grandfather’s Grandfather and Cisco Lights, on YouTube and Vimeo, feature folk rock duo Gleewood as well as music videos with Brooklyn rapper Devon Glover, a.k.a. The Sonnet Man. As an actress, Voorhees has performed in Friday the 13th Part V, Avenging Angel, Voyeurs, Riptide, Dallas, Days of Our Lives and others. As an 18-year veteran journalist, she covered arts and entertainment with The Dallas Morning News, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Modern Luxury Magazine, and Front Desk Magazine. She taught British Literature and journalism in Texas and New Mexico and taught acting for film at Eastern New Mexico University.
